We are in the final month of our First Grade Year together and we have so much that is still in store! Please see more information below for upcoming dates and details. 

May 2nd: R2i2 Baking Field Study

Tomorrow we will be visiting R2i2 for a baking field study with the Culinary Teacher, Ms. Marilyn Ross. We are looking forward to baking and decorating cookies and making our own snack mixes alongside some high school helpers from her culinary class. We can't wait to see math in the kitchen! 

We will leave CFI at 9:30 tomorrow morning. We will arrive back to CFI by 12:45. Pizza will be served at R2i2 for lunch. If you would like to send your child a snack for the morning, or a bagged lunch instead of pizza, feel free to do so. Thank you for sending these in disposable bags. 

**If you DO NOT want your child to attend the field study tomorrow, please email me as soon as possible. We will make arrangements for them to join another learning community at CFI until we return. 

May 3rd: Cicada Crew Gathering 

Please join us for our final celebration of learning through Gathering, this Friday, at 2:00 in the Gathering room. I am amazed at the growth I have seen in the 21 individuals in my class, and I am so excited for you to celebrate alongside us. Our thought for the week is, when stars shine together, they make a galaxy. This has been our thought for the week because like the stars come together to make a galaxy, our class is made of different people who shine bright in their own way. 

May 10th: Strawberry Patch Field Study to Clinton Sease Farms 

Next Friday we will be attending Clinton Sease Farms for a field study to their strawberry patch. I will communicate more details next week. 

May 21st: First Grade Family Picnic in the Storybook Garden (at CFI) 11:00-11:45 

May 22nd and May 23rd: First Grade Talent Show 

Calling all dancers, singers, artists, comedians, athletes, scientists, and more!
Mrs. Palmatier and I are so excited to be hosting the First Grade Talent show with our friends. 
This will be a time for our two classes to come together and show off our favorite hobbies, talents, moves, or songs (Or whatever their talent may be)! Please ask your child to start thinking if they have something they'd like to share in the talent show. 

May 24th: Splash Day 
May 27th: Memorial Day (No school) 
May 30th: Last Day of School (Half Day)

Although our time together is coming to an end, I am excited for all that is to come for my Cicadas as they go on to second grade. What a joy it is to be there teacher, and to be a part of their journey.

This isn't a goodbye, but it is a "see ya later, my Cicada Crew!"  As I reflect on our year together I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the blessing that this first class has been in my teaching journey, my learning, and my life. I will forever cherish the children in the Cicada Crew, and I will never forget the learning, joy, and sweet times that we shared. Thank you families for your constant support, and for your role in the learning and growth that we experienced.  As I think about this group of students going forward to second grade, I can imagine there are many different feelings that we may all be feeling. First Week of Kindergarten- Check!

 Kindergarten families,       It is an understatement to tell you that our first 8 days of school have filled my heart with so much joy. They have encouraged, supported, and learned alongside me so much already as I navigate through my first year as a teacher, and as they navigate life as a kindergarten. We are truly all in this together! Each day, I am blown away by the excitement, curiosity, and wonder of your students. We have grown so much as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and community members already. Who We Are as Learners

 Cicada Crew Families,  What a week we have had! I am so excited for the beauty that is taking place in our room and in our school... and we are only a few weeks in! Thank you so much for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate the weather situation.    As social scientists, we are inquiring into maps and what we can learn from them. We know that maps share information, and those who make maps use lines, labels, colors, pictures, legends, and more to share that information. Logan brought in some maps that his dad created, and we loved getting to make observations and ask questions as we sought to make meaning with the map.
