Who We Are as Learners

 Cicada Crew Families,  What a week we have had! I am so excited for the beauty that is taking place in our room and in our school... and we are only a few weeks in! Thank you so much for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate the weather situation.    As social scientists, we are inquiring into maps and what we can learn from them. We know that maps share information, and those who make maps use lines, labels, colors, pictures, legends, and more to share that information. Logan brought in some maps that his dad created, and we loved getting to make observations and ask questions as we sought to make meaning with the map. Life as a First Grader So Far!

  Cicada Crew Families,  Our week has been full of questions, songs, family photos, state flags, free writes, just right books, math games, and more! I love seeing how our First Grade year has been off to a start where we are able to continue to expand upon the learning that happened in Kindergarten. As I mentioned in the previous blog, we have also made reflection a habit in our classrooms, whether it is reflecting upon growth throughout our time at CFI, reflecting on an experience in the classroom, or reflecting on our growth during our reading, writing, or math workshops. I am amazed and encouraged by the reflective and thoughtful minds in our classroom! Please continue the reflection conversations at home, whether it is reflecting about their day, an area of growth, a tough moment, or something they've learned.  One thing that we are all reminding ourselves of each day in class, is that in First Grade, there is only one tall teacher in the classroom.
