Gathering and Grateful Hearts

Cicada Crew Families,  What a joy it is to live and learn alongside your students. Our Gathering has absolutely been my favorite day- to see their confidence, excitement, and personalities shine in front of our whole school- picture perfect.  We are truly better together. We’ve talked a lot about what this means to us in our class.   “We can learn from each other”  “We can be friends together”  “We are all different but that is a good thing!”  “We can teach each other”  “We can help one another”  “We can be stronger together”  …and the list goes on and on.  “Everyone is special in their own way, we make each other strong…together is where we belong.”  This line from our class song really hit me as I reflected on our class. We have so many diverse strengths and experiences, and when we bring all of these things together, it is a beautiful thing. We make each other better, and I know for sure they make me a better teacher and person e...

Gathering, Here We Come!

Cicada Crew Families,   What an interesting week we have had with Election Day, and our inclement weather e-learning day. Through the crazy schedule, your children have kept us going, and they have continued to be excited and thoughtful in their learning.  Although we sadly weren't able to perform to honor Veterans and Grandparents Day, we still practiced and recorded our performance! Our family book recommendations have continued to be beautiful moments in our classroom. This week, we read books to represent Braylen, Dominic, and Jaiden. This is when we break the number into two parts, so that we can see all of the different numbers that can make that number. For example, 1+9+10, 2+8=10, 3+7=10, and so on. We have continued to do our number of the day, and I have been b...

Cicada Crew Families,  This week was full of beautiful conversations surrounding the weather, ideas for stories, culture, math games, and so much more. We have continued to read our family book recommendations, which have truly been the highlights of our days! Thank you to all who have sent in your books. It has been so special to see the excitement grow with each book that we read. This week, we read stories to represent Noah, Logan, Isabella, and August. I love how through each of these books, we were able to make connections with the characters and their experiences. Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse into the way that you view your child, as this helps us all to grow as community members who understand one another with compassion.  As writers, we have been working on a class book, called The Dragon Cave! This story was brought to us by an idea we grabbed out of our idea jar (a jar that we each put one idea for a story starter into). As a class, we planned out ...
